For many fans, the end-of-season player awards are one of the biggest highlights of the long MLB offseason. There’s just one problem: the most deserving players don’t always win. Though the BBWAA generally does a better job with the MVP and the Cy Young than with, say, the Hall of Fame, their picks for the coveted hardware are often questionable, if not dumbfounding. (more…)

2012 MLB All-Star Game Preview: National League Edition

The National League All-Star team has a chance to do something tonight that it hasn’t accomplished since 1996: win three All-Star games in a row. That’s 15 straight years they’ve gone without putting together an actual winning streak. It’s hard to wrap your mind around the fact that in a game full of stars, one league can dominate another over such a prolonged period of time. (more…)

The fan-selected starting lineups will take the field in Kansas City tonight for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game, but we at FanSided MLB weren’t content to let the nationwide vote stand unchallenged. So we held a mock All-Star vote of our own.

Thirty-three writers from around the network offered their picks for the best players in each league between June 28 and July 2 (the dates coincided with the end of the fan voting). Here are the results from the National League (AL results here). (more…)
