Judging Mark Shapiro’s GM Tenure: Low-Profile Trades

We’re now more than two full years removed from Mark Shapiro’s promotion to Cleveland Indians team president and GM Chris Antonetti is firmly entrenched as the Tribe’s decision maker. So I thought now would be as soon as anyone could fairly judge Shapiro’s tenure as GM. There are still some loose ends hanging (Carlos Carrasco, for example, and Matt LaPorta), but the body of Shapiro’s work is complete, and I wanted to put my optimism about his tenure to the test. The 2012 MLB playoffs start today, and the Cleveland Indians are one of the 20 teams to have been eliminated after 162 games. But just because the Tribe is out of it doesn’t mean we won’t see some familiar faces on national TV this October nor that we shouldn’t care how the postseason unfolds. (more…)

The FanSided 2012 NL All-Star Team

The fan-selected starting lineups will take the field in Kansas City tonight for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game, but we at FanSided MLB weren’t content to let the nationwide vote stand unchallenged. So we held a mock All-Star vote of our own.

Thirty-three writers from around the network offered their picks for the best players in each league between June 28 and July 2 (the dates coincided with the end of the fan voting). Here are the results from the National League (AL results here). (more…)
