The Cleveland Indians open their final inter-division series of the 2012 season tonight as they head to Arlington for a three-game set with the Texas Rangers. The Rangers look poised for a deep playoff run and are likely in for a busy winter, so I talked to Nolan Writin’ Editor Jared Book about Texas’ playoff hopes, what he expects in the offseason, and what Tribe fans should look for from the Rangers this series. Getting outscored 30-11 over four games by the Oakland Athletics seems like an impossibility, but in this season of firsts and amazings, awesome ups and dreadful downs, the Cleveland Indians did it. It took a big effort on Thursday, especially with Justin Masterson on the mound, but even without the Cuban sensation Yoenis Cespedes keeping it in the park the A’s hit like the Yankees. Luckily they’re headed out of town to terrorize some other unsuspecting squad, but unluckily the Tribe is trading the 13th-ranked team OPS for the second-ranked, and host the Texas Rangers.

Beltre’s Blast Leads Rangers Past Tribe, 5-2

The 21,307 in attendance at Progressive Field Saturday night marked the largest crowd since Opening Day, but the fans’ energy was quickly defused in the 11th inning as Adrian Beltre‘s pinch-hit three-run home run by off Joe Smith gave the Texas Rangers (18-9) a 5-2 victory over the Indians (14-11).
