Astros Batter Tribe as Indians Fall to Second Place

Derek Lowe had a solid start in the series finale at Minute Maid Park, but it was for naught as J.A. Happ shut down Cleveland’s bats and the Astros battered the bullpen as the Indians fell, 7-1. The loss in the rubber match gave Houston a series victory, but more importantly it knocked the Tribe’s record down to 37-34 as the Chicago White Sox (38-34) regained first place in the AL Central. A sweep of the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds gave the Indians a great end to their six-game home stand: they went 4-2 versus their Ohio brethren and their Pittsburgh neighbors. Today begins a 10-game road trip in which the Tribe go from the heart of Texas to the shining spires of New York City to the…er, Baltimore. First up on the docket is the Houston Astros. (more…)
