Yesterday the Indians hitters dropped soft fly balls just inside the foul lines and hit line drives that were just out of the reach of the Red Sox defenders as they defeated the Red Sox 12-3. Tonight, the line drives were right at outfielders and hard grounders were easily handled by infielders and the offense unable to string anything together in falling to the Red Sox by a final score of 8-1.

Not to toot my horn, but I was one of the guys who talked you off the roof when the Indians were 8-13. Now that they are on pace for 98 wins, there is endless speculation in the blogosphere about whether they are “for real.” The exhilaration of their recent play is tempered by the fact that they have been in virtually this exact place the past two years and it did not last. But the talent seems deeper, the vibe seems more solid, and the record is more in line with the underlying stats than it was last year. So should we be saving our money for World Series tickets? The answer, as it has all along, comes down to the pitching. (more…)

I don’t want to say the Indians are reeling, but after two not so successful games against the Tigers, they could use a solid series to help get themselves back on track. Unfortunately, the Indians are faced with the task of traveling to Boston to take on the always difficult Boston Red Sox. For whatever reason, despite their record, the od Sox always find a way to make life difficult for the Indians.

The next four days shouldn’t be any different. Even though the Red Sox struggled mightily in 2012, this year’s version is much better and a more collective unit. Entering play tonight, they find themselves sitting in second place in the AL East behind the New York Yankees with a record of 28-19. That’s quite a departure from last year’s team that struggled from the first pitch of opening day and imploded by mid-May. (more…)
