The three-way trade that sent Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds and brought Drew Stubbs and Trevor Bauer to Cleveland last week caused quite a stir around baseball—besides the fact that a high-profile soon-to-be-free agent and one of the best-regarded prospects in baseball changed teams, the deal seemed to come completely out of nowhere. But outside Northeast Ohio, the Choo trade was eclipsed both in scale and shock factor by the Los Angeles’ Angels surprising signing of Josh Hamilton on Thursday. (more…)

For many fans, the end-of-season player awards are one of the biggest highlights of the long MLB offseason. There’s just one problem: the most deserving players don’t always win. Though the BBWAA generally does a better job with the MVP and the Cy Young than with, say, the Hall of Fame, their picks for the coveted hardware are often questionable, if not dumbfounding. (more…)

Considering the season is pretty much in the tank barring an epic collapse or two by their division-mates, there’s not much to be excited about with the Cleveland Indians anymore. But in the rubber match against the Los Angeles Angels we got to see the return of a man we thought we all knew, Roberto Hernandez. Of course he was Fausto Carmona back when we thought we knew him, but he’s still the same guy on the hill we’ve watched, hoped for and been frustrated by since 2007.
