The Los Angeles Dodgers finalized a fantastic new ownership group last month with Lakers great Earvin “Magic” Johnson becoming the new face of the ownership. Dodgers fans are ecstatic, first from shaking off the weight of a cash-poor owner who was slowly mortgaging the team to keep his own head above water, and now with the prospect of maybe the biggest sports hero in Los Angeles history as the face of the franchise. In a move that surprised no one, the Oakland Athletics signed free agent Manny Ramirez Monday afternoon. The deal had been a long time coming, but now it’s official: Ramirez won’t be rejoining the Indians in 2012.

Not that there was much of a chance that he was coming to Cleveland to begin with. GM Chris Antonetti had made it clear that he wasn’t interested in bringing Ramirez back to the organization he debuted with. But that doesn’t mean not signing Manny was the smart move—in fact, now that we know what it would have taken to get him, the Indians’ refusal to consider him looks even worse. (more…)

It’s been a busy offseason for the Cleveland Indians. They’ve plugged the hole at first base with Casey Kotchman and Russ Canzler. They’ve shored up the rotation with Derek Lowe and Kevin Slowey. And they’ve added depth with almost a whole roster’s worth of veterans on minor-league deals.

In other words, the Tribe’s offseason roster moves are probably complete. But is there any as-yet-unsigned player who should still be on Chris Antonetti’s shopping list? In this edition of the Weekly Wroundtable, we asked our panelists: Is there anyone else the Indians should sign before Opening Day?
