I went to the Columbus Clippers game Saturday night. It is always interesting to watch Indians’ prospects, because sometimes there appears to be little correlation between minor league numbers and major league success. As it happened, there were a number of players on the field that are familiar to Indians fans, although the player I was hoping to see, Trevor Bauer, did not pitch. This was surprising because he had last pitched in Cleveland on Monday. I would have thought the Indians would try to keep him on a steady five-day routine.

With the Mark Reynolds signing now official, the Cleveland Indians had make room for him on the 40-man roster. The team decided that the best way to clear the space was to designate Russ Canzler for assignment. Was that the right choice? (more…)

Will Matt LaPorta Be Picked in Rule 5 Draft?

The Cleveland Indians made a flurry of roster moves Tuesday evening in preparation for the Rule 5 Draft. Outfielder Tim Fedroff and pitchers Chen-Chang Lee, Trey Haley, and T.J. House were added to the Tribe’s 40-man roster to protect them from being claimed purchased by other teams during the December 6 draft. To make room for the additions, the Indians removed Matt LaPorta, Brent Lillibridge, and Fabio Martinez from the 40-man. (more…)
