With less than a week to go before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, there’s officially a new seller on the market. Reports surfaced Wednesday that Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin declared last week that he would start selling if his team lost more than four games on their then-upcoming road trip through Cincinnati and Philadelphia. A string have six straight losses have knocked the Brewers to nine games under .500 and 13 out of first place in the NL Central—that means it’s time to clean house. (more…)

FanSided’s Crowdsourced 2012 MLB Power Rankings

Last week, I sent a survey out to the FanSided MLB team inviting any so daring writers to take on the daunting task of power ranking all 30 teams in advance of the 2012 season. The goal: to create a crowdsourced power ranking list for the coming year.

A dozen bold souls wrote in, comprising a full 360 check-offs. Now, the results are in.

Who Should Tribe Fans Be Rooting For in Playoff Semifinals?

There’s no better time than the playoffs to be a baseball fan—for several weeks at a time, we get at least one great matchup almost every night as the game’s best teams fight to be crowned World Series champs. You don’t have to be a fan of a playoff team to appreciate the awesomeness of October.

But for those fans who root for one of the 22 teams whose seasons ended September 28 (or now, the four teams who made it but got knocked out in the division series), the postseason also means confusion about which of the remaining contenders deserve their support. Even to the most objective observer, baseball is more fun when you’re rooting for one side over the other. So how should Indians fans decide who to cheer for? (more…)
