Last night the Indians got blanked by the Royals, 12-0. They continue to get blanked, and really, they’re blanking themselves. They’re blanking themselves at the plate, they’re blanking themselves in the field. Right now, they’re just 25 blanks in baseball caps. Carlos Carrasco was the biggest blank of all last night (if you can’t already tell, I’ve given a double meaning to getting “blanked”). All I know is, the front office better not blank up the trade deadline, or we’re going to be blanked for years to come. Blank me.

Now that I’ve got all that blanking out of my system, I’ll get to the blanking point. Its around 6 p.m. on July 30, and as of now the Indians have added only Kosuke Fukudome. They assure us that more will be done, and according to Buster Olney of ESPN the Indians are close to trading for former Indian Ryan Ludwick (currently in San Diego) and are also the front-runners for Ubaldo Jiminez of the Rockies. As far as the trades go, its tough for me to weigh in until I see the price (potentially) for each. Both could fill holes for this team, but the team should be trading with 2012 and beyond in mind. More to come on any trades after the 4 p.m. deadline tomorrow.

I’d love to hear from the readers (all three of you) about what you want to see happen in the next 22 hours. I’ll be glad to tell you you’re crazy, wrong, or maybe you have a good point that I haven’t looked at yet. Either way, I (and Steve and Jon, I’m sure) would love to get your feedback on the trade deadline, as its the biggest one we’ve had here in years.

Until the next time, happy (one more) blanking Saturday.

There is no question that the offense has been awful since the All-Star break. The most runs scored in a game during that span is 8, which came in the first game after the break. Their record since the break is 5-9, even though the pitching has been great for the most part.

I originally thought that rock bottom for the offense was being no-hit by Ervin Santana on Wednesday, but last night’s performance wasn’t much better. The Indians lost 12-0 in a game that saw Carlos Carrasco lose his cool after a Melky Cabrera grand-slam and throw at the head of Billy Butler. This was absolutely inexcusable and Carrasco was ejected, which left the bullpen with no time to warm up. Not a smart move by Carlos, and certainly not something that will improve his popularity among his teammates. (more…)
