Cleveland Indians Sign Boone Logan to Help Bolster the Bullpen

The Cleveland Indians have signed left-handed reliever Boone Logan, who will help strengthen the bullpen during the 2017 season.

Just when fans think the roster is already one of the strongest in the league, the Cleveland Indians continue to improve.

The team signed left-handed reliever Boone Logan today, as first reported by Ken Rosenthal.

The Indians had been in the market for a lefty reliever to complement Andrew Miller, and Logan is a great fit.

He can come in on days when Miller needs rest, and can even come in to retire one left-handed batter, thus allowing Miller to come in for an entire inning or even more when the matchups are in his favor.

A benefit of the signing is that the team got Logan not just for 2017, but will also own a club option for 2018, as reported by Paul Hoynes.

Logan was one of the bigger names on the market, so it is nice to see the Indians come out on top when it comes to the second-year option. But based on past performance, there is no reason why Logan won’t be a welcome return to the club in 2018.

The Indians have now added both Logan and Edwin Encarnacion this season, signaling a change in the team’s goals moving forward. A championship was within reach last season, and anything less of one in 2017 will be considered a failure.

Add in the return of Michael Brantley and the Indians have positioned themselves as the clear favorites to make it out of the American League this season.
